Call for Pitches for Feet in 2 Worlds: Immigrants in a Divided Country

Feet in 2 Worlds is accepting story pitches for its upcoming series, “Immigrants in a Divided Country.” The series will explore the current political landscape from the perspective of immigrants – voters, and non-voters, citizens, legal residents and undocumented people.

We are looking for stories about voting and political activism in immigrant communities, flash points in the culture wars, and efforts to bring together people from diverse communities and perspectives. Story pitches can include a variety of formats, including podcast, text, images and video. Some of the subjects we’re interested in include guns and gun control, voting rights, abortion and abortion rights, police violence, global warming, economic policy, and energy policy.

Series summary:

America’s broken immigration system and the mistreatment of immigrants have long been deeply divisive issues in American politics. But recently, other issues seem to have eclipsed immigration as leading indicators of the nation’s political divisions – gun control, voting rights, abortion, police violence, global warming, economic policy, energy policy, to name a few.

The question we want to ask is where do immigrants fit into this extraordinary cluster of controversy, dysfunction, hatred and malice? How are they affected, and what role do immigrants play in these controversies? How have specific issues and events as well as the national mood changed how immigrants view themselves, their communities, the nation and the world? How might the political choices immigrants make, and the allegiances they create, affect the outcome of the midterms where control of Congress and many state houses is at stake, and where national debates are reverberating on the state, county and local level? What does polling and data tell us about immigrant voters and immigrant communities?

The series will also explore using social media and live events, in-person or online, to reach audiences with our reporting. Feet in 2 Worlds will work with media partners to develop, publish and promote the stories in this series.

We’re looking for:

  • Human-centered stories and powerful narratives to publish in podcast, text, images, and video
  • Compelling experts, community leaders, data, and recent polling to help frame the stories with context and information that deepens our reporting
  • Stories that center and focus on immigrant communities from different regions, backgrounds, and economic circumstances across the country.

Compensation for accepted stories will depend on factors including the experience level of the producer, the length of the story, and the complexity of the story. Payment for stories ranges from $250 to $1000.

Deadline for pitches:

The deadline is Friday, July 15 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern.
