Feet in 2 Worlds’ Immigration News Picks, June 7

YMCA

Afternoon reading.

It’s a big day for immigrant news, with major stories from several national publications.  The Christian Science Monitor has a piece on the Startup 2.0 Act, a bipartisan effort to make it easier for educated immigrants to receive green cards.  The New York Times examines the continuation of the Obama Administration’s record rate of deportations, and the possible electoral consequences.  Mitt Romney announced his Hispanic Leadership Team, led by former Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez. USAToday has a story about migrant workers and their struggles to get adequate health care.  In New Mexico, a local paper reports on a busted ring allegedly providing immigrants with access to false driver’s licenses.  The Immigrant Magazine details a new educational tool from the USCIS.  And a UNLV professor is researching a book on the 2006 immigrant rights movement.

In New York City news, DNAInfo.com provides tips on the best places to watch the Euro Cup and catches up with Sikh MTA employees who are relieved to know they can wear their turbans freely after a settlement in Federal Court.  Voices of New York also provides a translation of a World Journal article dealing with the fallout from the shuttering of several Chinatown bus companies.  Finally, the New York Daily News profiles a Russian immigrant couple in Brighton Beach on their success selling a new twist on a traditional dish.
